2-Aminoisobutyric acid (NSC-16590,2-Methylalanine,H-Aib-OH) is a rare, non-protein amino acid that is an end product of pyrimidine metabolism and is excreted in urine and found in some fungically-derived antibiotics.NSC16590(α-Aminoisobutyricacid,AIB) inhibits the production of endogenous ethylene in the cotyledonarys egments of cocklebur(Xanthium pennsylvanicumWallr.) seeds most strongly. NSC16590 at 4mM inhibit the formation of ethyleneby about50%, although the O2 uptake of the segments is not ffectedeven at 20mM.NSC16590 also inhibits ethylene formation in the stem segments of etiolated pea (Pisumsatiuum L. cv. Alaska) seedlings.
